Rabbi Marion Lev-Cohen serves as the Rabbi for Community Engagement at Central Synagogue. Her work focuses on congregational community building and deepening networks of friendships and support through pastoral, educational, and affinity groups. Over the past decades, she served on numerous boards including UJA/Federation, serving on the Executive Committee and Chair of the Commission on Jewish Identity and Renewal, the Joint Distribution Committee and the Jewish Agency. She also served on the boards of the American Jewish World Service, the Institute of Jewish Spirituality, and Synagogue 3000. She currently serves on the board of the Israel Policy Forum, as well as the boards of Encounter, ImmerseNYC, and the International Council of the New Israel Fund. Rabbi Lev-Cohen was ordained at Hebrew Union College–Jewish Institute of Religion in 2010. In her previous career as a psychotherapist, she ran a graduate training program for social work students at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston. She is the mother of two adult children, and a granddaughter, and resides with her husband Professor Steven M. Cohen of HUC-JIR in New York City and in Jerusalem.
